  • Sojourner Truth was a black American freedom fighter and an orator. 
  • She was a child of African parents Baumfree and Elizabeth. 
  • At the age of 9, she was auctioned off to an Englishman, John Nealy. 
  • The Nealys did not understand her Dutch language so that she was punished very much without any reason. 
  • So Nealy family sold her to a fisherman here she learned the natural expressions. 
  • Then after John J. Dumont purchased, here she married and had five children. 
  • She ran away with only her youngest child to New York City.
  • She worked at a low job and through some friends; she came under the influence of a religious fanatic.
  • Truth bought gifts for the soldiers with money earned from her lectures and helped fugitive slaves find work and housing.
  • She continued her lecture for the Lord and against injustice. 
  • In her famous speech ‘Ain't I a woman’, she spoke regarding the injustice and humiliation done to the Negro women.
  • She talked about women’s rights. 
  • She died November 26, 1883.
